Teen Wants a Signal

VALENCIA TEEN REQUESTS TRAFFIC SIGNAL

This article caught my eye today in the paper.  Basically, a Valencia High school student is requesting the installation of a traffic signal on a street in her neighborhood after a six-year-old boy was hit by a car two weeks ago on a Saturday evening.

14-year-old Kelsey George went before the City Council on Tuesday night with a petition in support of her motion, urging councillors to install a traffic signal at either the intersection of McBean Parkway and Summerhill Lane, or McBean Parkway and Skycrest Circle Drive - two intersections that are notorious for collisions.

Tristin Bizarro was hit by an SUV on the evening of September 15th. From what I’ve heard, he is recovering in hospital.

According to City Manager Ken Striplin, the city’s traffic department has already received a great deal of feedback from residents worried about the lack of traffic signals north of Decoro Drive on McBean Parkway.

I agree 100%  I use the WAMU there a lot and leaving there to turn left onto McBean is scary.  Cars jam down the street.  I can’t even imagine what happened to that poor boy.  Geez, hope he’s ok.

Anybody have any updates on his condition?

  1. I am Tristen Bizzaro’s Aunt and would like to update everyone on his condition. He is a living breathing miracle and proof that the power of prayer is divine! Just this morning, 10-1-2007, he started speaking again! All with his jaw wired! He wants to know when his dad will bring his Bionicles to the hospital so he can play with them! He is expected to make a full recovery after a year of therapy, but Tristen already has plans to smash that projected timeline. Thank you to everyone who has sent their prayers and good vibes. He (We) feel it everyday and PLEASE don’t let your kids out of the house on anything mobile WITHOUT A HELMET !!!!!!!

  2. I would love to see a Paseo bridge across McBean either at the McDonalds intersection or the street just North of it. My mother-in-law lives in the senior apartments and frequently crosses McBean with my children. Thankfully, she uses the light at McBean and Decoro but I would feel so much better if there was a bridge to cross, especially after the horrific accident with the little boy. I still don’t trust the intersections, we have all seen the accidents from people speeding through the yellow lights. There is now a park being built at the corner of Decoro and McBean and there will be many more pedestrians wanting to cross over to the Ralph’s/McDonalds shopping area. With the new park and the senior apartments I think it is definitely needed.
