Santa Clarita Pride Week
I received this comment from a reader whom I only know as “K& M’s Mom”. Some good information here. I thought it deserved it’s own post.
Pride Week will run from Monday, April 9, through Sunday, April 15, 2007. Hundreds of residents will volunteer to clean up and beautify streets, parks, schools, and other areas around town. Please note…there is one important change for this year’s event. In past years, residents hauled their trash to various “dumpsites” throughout the City. There will be no dumpsites this year. Instead, residents may call their trash hauler to arrange for a pick-up of extra trash and/or bulky items, or they may make an appointment to take their items to the Waste Management facility, 25772 Springbrook Road, in Saugus. If you have any questions, please call Cynthia Llerenas at (661) 255-4918.

Some more info on disposing of bulky items. Specifically, we need to take apart and dump a swing set and trampoline. I called Waste Management (Blue Barrell) at (661) 259-2398. According to their website, residents can arrange to have their electronic waste like old computers (it’s illegal to disposal of batteries in the regular trash!) and large items collected as part of a bulky pickup. You can request up to 4 free bulky item pickups per year, 3 items per pickup. Call the above number to arrange a bulky item pickup. Unfortunately, a swing set is not considered one item. Each piece counts as one. Another option is to go to their 25772 Springbrook Avenue address in Saugus (M-F 9am-3pm) to drop off bulky items. You’re allowed to drop off 3-5 items per week (for free). You might have to make an appointment at (661) 254-1547 but I didn’t get that far. Unfortunately, 9am-3pm on a weekday doesn’t help us working folk. We just might have to go the pay-someone-to-pick-it-up route.
