Father’s Day in Santa Clarita
I spent the weekend at Central Park at an extremely well run fastpitch softball tournament. This tournament was hosted by a local organization called Synergy Fastpitch.
Synergy is located by the new Walmart on Constellation Drive off of Alta Vista and Copperhill. It is a 6500 sq ft facility that focuses on sports training.
There were about 24 teams in the tournament and all four of the fields at Central Park were going strong from 8am til dark. There were girls there competing from 12u-18u. It was a very exciting weekend and my husband would not have wanted to be anywhere else other than at a softball field. I hope that the city parks and rec department realizes how beneficial it is to the city to allow tournaments of this nature to happen.
It has been my experience in the past that the city parks dept has made hosting a tournament of this size very difficult because they won’t allow teams to sell food there. Since selling food from a snack bar is the teams only source of fundraising, what benefit would the team have in hosting if they weren’t allowed to set up a snack bar?
Apparently, all of this red tape is due to a commitment they have to someone that already has a snack shop set up at Central Park. The only problem is that the scack shop is so far from the softball fields that it is not likely that people will walk over or even see it if they are watching the games from the bleachers.
Kudos to the city parks dept for allowing this tournament just to see how it would go. I hope the right people were there to see what a great time was had by all and how much of a benefit it was to this great organization that focuses on youth sports.
