Exotic Cars and Coffee
Valencia Cars ‘n Coffee will be taking place Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at the Gateway Village Shopping Center, near the corner of Newhall Ranch Road and Rye Canyon/Copper Hill. There’s a Coffee Bean there and if you are a car enthusiast you really need to go check this out. Las time I drove by there I was so impressed by all the cool cars that congregate there it made me really wish I had one.
Anyone can go, mingle with other car enthusiasts who live in the SCV. Also, you can use the occasion as a meeting place for you and your friends to go on a group drive, go to brunch, etc.
The club that organizes this event is the Valencia Exotic Car Club and you can check out some of the cool cars on their website.
Las Lomas Project Controversy
The Signal has uncovered some information that is very relevant to the proposed Las Lomas Project(Development scheduled off the 5 by Calgrove).
Apparently Palmer Investments (aka Las Lomas) doesn’t really own all the land yet. According to the Signal’s latest reveal, it owns less than half of the 555 acres. 251 of those acres are owned by a 77 year old Van Nuys resident who has been kept out of the loop about the massive development planned for his property. Yes it is true that he did sign an agreement with Palmer Investments pledging his commitment to the project and giving them an option to buy, but he is still the current owner and has not been kept in the loop of all the meetings and controversy regarding his portion of the land which is mainly the southern portion on the hill.
The Signal does a great job outlining their discovery so if you haven’t already seen the headline in todays paper, check it out here.
Brazilian Steakhouse - Barbacoa Churrascaria
I recently had dinner at a new Brazilian churrascaria (steakhouse) in Santa Clarita. This one is really good and I am definitely going back on an empty stomach.
Barbacoa is located where Wild Time used to be in the Valencia Marketplace behind Starbucks. (Old Rd and McBean). The meats are delicious and their buffet sides are great. They offer 12 different meat choices including lamb, picanha, tri-tip filet and more. They sell beer and wine and the all you can eat meal is around $35.
If you’re wondering where to go for Valentine’s Day I’d suggest giving this a try for two reasons. First off, since it’s new hopefully it won’t be as crowded. Second, the food and the service is really good.
The number in case you want to make a reservation is 288-1123.
Tutoring Club
I signed my daughter up at the Tutoring Club located on the corner of Newhall Ranch and Dickerson. (in the Eggs n Things center)
I see this place every time I drive over to pick her up and when she needed help in Geometry it was my first choice, mainly for the location. So far I have been very pleased with the learning environment and the price isn’t that bad either. I paid $370 for 4 weeks / 8 1 hour lessons($50 was a registration fee).
They are open from 2:30-7:30 and offer many subjects including SAT Prep.
Finals will be here before we know it, so if your kid is starting to need help, maybe it’s time to start thinking about getting them a tutor.
Check them out for yourself at their website.
