Manuel White in the SCV to Kick Off NFL Flag Football
The City of Santa Clarita is set to kick off football season with a ceremony featuring NFL Alumni Manuel White of the Washington Redskins, who is a Valencia High School and UCLA alumni.
Activities at the ceremony will include football challenges, a parade of teams and the NFL punt, pass, and kick competition. Attendees will be able to buy pizza and ice cream from Lamppost Pizza.
The Season Dates for the 2007 NFL Flag Football season are from September 8 through November 3, 2007.
Part of the City’s Youth Sports Program, the NFL Flag Football league encourages kids to develop their self-confidence and improve physical abilities through strategies related to sports.
City Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Supervisor Richard Carr says, “The Youth Sports programs are designed to teach children how to win as more a team and as individuals by building character and self-esteem. This kind of winning is not always reflected in the score or the standings, but is seen in the development of the child as a player and in the team as a unit."

National Blog Day
So today is ‘National Blog Day’. Since I’m an avid blogger, I’ll give in to the marketing scheme and go ahead and do this.
Basically, the idea is to spread the word about blogs and link to up to 5 random blogs that are off topic to your blog. So here are my picks. Hope you like them.
Weird Asia News - This is a great blog and the author is really good about finding some freaky things that are happening in other parts of the world.
Techipedia - This is a blog of a super cool girl that is a total tech geek and proud of it. She is amazing at what she does, so if you’re interested in internet/web stuff, check it out.
Random Chick Post
I was prompted to write this from a comment I received from a resident the other day (below). I often post about places in town I like, but occasionally, residents have different experiences than I do. For the record, I have not been paid by any of these places to write anything about them. Although I might consider it.
Ladies, let’s talk about nail salons.
Where are the best places in town to get your nails done?
I will say I like Accent Nails (Kim - does great nail art) on Decoro and McBean, Natural Nails (Tammy - fastest I’ve ever seen) on Lyons, and occasionally I’ll go to the Nail Forum, although it’s usually so busy in there it’s hard to just walk in.
There are a lot of these salons popping up around town, so if you have one you like in particular, please give them a shout out!
(Thanks Sandy.)
Re: Accent Nails
I will NEVER go there again.
I have lived out here for 10 years and have gone to half a dozen nail shops and this was the worst.
I was left in the pedicure spa tub soaking my feet for 10 minutes(exactly) before the manicurist was done shuffleling around the shop and visiting with her other friends, while looking at me.
Some kid then came 20 minutes later from God knows where to give me a horrible manicure.I think he wasn’t even 21.
Totally unprofessional and I question the hygiene methods he used.
I never have ever walked out of anywhere and never tipped, they are the only place.
Unless you are getting free services to promote them,I wouldn’t go there.
Nail Forum as always is the best but I now go to Euphoria Nails on Copper Hill Dr. in the Albertsons center.
Professional,clean,on time and great mani/pedis.
Just my 2 cents!
Sandy S.
I think Sandy and I agreed that it is funny how people can have different experiences at the same place.

Boy Scout Service Center Opens In Newhall
Santa Clarita’s Boy Scouts are celebrating after the Grand Opening of a new Service Center in Old Town Newhall.
Check out the new center for SCV boys scouts. It’s now open! Here’s a recap of the grand opening festivities that went down based on a wonderfully descriptive story by Margie Anne Clark.
The lively ceremony, which took place on Saturday 26 August, included tee-pees, bagpipe music, a powwow drum circle, the presentation of colors and inspiring speeches by guests such as US Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon.
McKeon said, "From what I see here today, I am optimistic about the future of our nation… Trustworthy, helpful, loyal . . . how would you like to have people like that for your neighbors."
Special guest Ross Harrop, the council scout executive of the Western Los Angeles County Council, BSA, said, "There is only one time that is important - now! It is the most important time because it is the only time that we have any power. The Santa Clarita Boy Scouting programs will continue to grow and it won’t be long before they outgrow this Service Center."
Music Editor Chris Ledesma Celebrates 400
SANTA CLARITA MUSICAN RECORDS 400TH SIMPSONS SCORE
Santa Clarita music editor Chris Ledesma is celebrating after recording the 400th score for hit TV show The Simpsons, alongside Emmy Award-winning composer Alf Clausen.
The 400th score was performed at the Newman Scoring Stage on the 20th Century Fox lot on May 4th 2007, with Clausen directing 35 of LA’s top session musicians. ProTools recording expert Ledesma and music engineer Rick Riccio were behind Clausen, operating the mixing board and keeping track of every cue.
Clausen says, "The secret for me is the great team. Needless to say, we have spent hundreds of hours together and I like to keep it light and fun, which is an advantage in such a high-pressure atmosphere."
When asked about the 400th episode, long-term Santa Clarita resident Ledesma says,"It is fabulous. It is still amazing to see it all come together."
Congratulations to Chris for his success. I am a huge Simpsons fan, so when I saw this in the Signal I wanted to make sure I posted something about it.
By the way, have you all tried to Simpsonize yourselves?
