Rainy Day in July

Yesterday was a weird day.  I must have missed the weather forecast, but it was so humid out, that I wasn’t surprised when it started pouring rain in town. I love the smell of a first rain and it was kinda cool to have it even though it only lasted for about 5 minutes.

Henry Mayo’s 23rd Annual 5-K Run and Walk

Community members are invited to participate in Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s 23^rd annual “Run for the Health of It” 5-K run and walk Saturday, September 29. Registration for the event will open at the Henry Mayo parking lot at 7 a.m. The 5-K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the non-competitive walk. The event will also include a 1-K “Kiddie K” run for children under 10 years of age beginning at 8:15 a.m. Community members who pre-register by September 21st, may enter the race at a discounted rate of $20. The fee for pre-registered groups of five or more is $18 per person. After the pre-registration date has passed, the entry fee will be $25 per person.  (T-shirts will be distributed to participants the morning of the event.) Sponsorships for the event are available and range from a $100 to $5,000. After Hours Pediatric Urgent Care

There was a big ad in insideSCV this month about an urgent care facility for kids that is open when most pediatricians aren’t.  They offer IV’s, stutures and casts.  They accept all PPO plans, but there is a $75 fee due at time of service.

I think this is great.  I remember sitting in the emergency room with my son 2 years ago waiting about 3 hours for him to get 4 stitches.  I would have gladly paid the $75 fee just to get him treated quicker.

Pediatrician That Specializes in Kids with Autism

I received an email request from a local mom of four asking if anyone out there knows of a pediatrician in Santa Clarita that specializes in kids with Autism. This mom has been going to Facey, but isn’t getting the support she needs there.

Any parents out there that can relate and refer a pediatrician to her would greatly be appreciated.
