Santa Clarita Search and Rescue Team

A 15 member team of Santa Clarita volunteers make up our city’s Search and Rescue team that work in conjunction with our local Sheriff’s Dept. These are people that willingly give their time to help save lives.

They are holding their 1st annual golf tournament fundraiser this weekend at the Valencia Country Club. They are trying to raise money to purchase equipment. The main thing they need is a new SUV. With the one they are driving now having 200k or so miles on it, it sounds to me like they are definately in need of something new.

The entry fee for the tournament is $1100 for a foursome w/out sponsorship and $275 for individuals w/out sponsorship. They are providing breakfast, beverages, lunch and dinner along with prizes. You also get to the use of a cart.

Registration begins bright and early at 8am with a 10am tee time.

For more information you can call 661-254-4401.

Side note: I’ve been lucky enough to go to the Iridium Jazz Club in New York twice to watch the legendary Les Paul perform live. The guy is 92 years old. Sitting and chillin listening to jazz music is a great way to spend an evening. I am embarrassed to say that I didn’t know these guys did this, so I am definitely going to go check it out.

Elizabeth Hopp | Woman of Honor

The Betty Ferguson Foundation will honor Elizabeth Hopp this year at their 7th Annual Woman of Honor Dinner.

The foundation honors women in the community that have gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to volunteering and giving back to the community. The foundation also supports some local non-profit groups and recently started a $100k endowment meant to help women who want to pursue their education at COC.

Elizabeth Hopp is community volunteer and Senior VP and co-founder of the Bank of Santa Clarita. She is a 14 year volunteer at the Child and Family Center and a 9 year Henry Mayo volunteer. In addition, she has volunteered at the Chamber and the Boys and Girls Club.

Wow-I am impressed. Santa Clarita wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for people like Elizabeth Hopp and kudos to the Betty Ferguson Foundation for acknowledging community leaders and local women in general.

Hart Shetland Tournament Team Makes Local News

Fred Roggin from NBC Channel 4, made his way over to North Valley Baseball today to interview the winning team of the North Valley Invitational and it was none other than our own stud 5 and 6 year olds from W.S. Hart Baseball. Our local boys won the championship tonight beating the tournament host 14-7.

Shout outs to Billy for hitting a homerun over the fence and winning tournament MVP and to my nephew Donovan just because I am so proud of him!

Way to go boys!

July 4th 2007 | Celebrations in the SCV

There are alot of fun things to do in town on July 4th.  Amongst all the block parties and back yard BBQ’s Santa Clarita and it’s surrounding cities have some exciting events and dramatic fireworks shows ready for us.

As usual the Westfield Town Center will be shooting it’s patriotic display off the roof of the mall parking lot.  Red White and Blue will fill the sky over Stevenson Ranch while the Richard Rioux Park becomes the launching ground for the display.  Let’s not forget Castaic Lake’s sky art as they impress the valley with the bright colors and floating lights in the sky.  Lastly, of course Magic Mountain will add their amazing display along with the rest.

There are a lot of other events going on in addition to just the fireworks show. I could list them all, but really, the folks over at The Santa Clarita Guide did a great job, so go to their website and check out the list.

A few years ago, I was at Central Park at about 9pm on July 4th.  Surprisingly, you can see a few of the fireworks shows from there. This year, I’ll probably head over to the mall.

Have a great time and please be safe.
