The Garden Spot

I had lunch at The Garden Spot on the corner of Newhall Ranch Rd and Copperhill (next to Chipotle). If you’re in the mood for a fresh and healthy lunch, I highly recommend The Garden Spot.

They have some great choices as far as healthy food goes. They prepare delicious fresh tossed salads that are really tasty and quite big. Sharing one might be a good idea unless you are starving.

They offer salads, baked potatoes, salads on a bun and wraps. We had the Cobb and the Chicken Tortilla Salad. They offer 13 different salad dressings (I recommend the Mint-Lime Cilantro-Yum!)

Lasik Eye Surgery

Well, I finally did it. I hadn’t wanted to blog about this before because I didn’t want to jinx anything or get any comments with horror stories that might make me change my mind. It’s done, over and it went well. I woke up this morning and am seeing better than ever. I always saw well with my contact lenses, but this morning everything is just a bit crisper.

Dr. Corbin (661-259-2168) over here on Lyons and Waymen St. in Newhall has been my optometrist for about 10 years. The staff is great over there and he’s been telling me for a few years that I was a good candidate for the surgery. So finally after hemming and hawing over it, I committed to get it done 2 weeks ago and I sit here today wondering why in the world I waited.

At any rate, I will admit that I was scared to death and cried like a baby while I was laying there waiting for the procedure to begin, but at that point, there was no turning back.

If you are thinking of having Lasik done and want the details, read on.

Community Hiking Club

Looking for something to do this summer in Santa Clarita? How about taking a hike? That’s right, a hike. We have so many great hiking trails right here in the SCV and many that are close by. Our local hiking club plans hiking events that are available to the community and information is easily accessed on their website.

Hiking is a great way to get some exercise without thinking about it and being out in nature can be relaxing and healing in many ways. So, when your bored or stressed out, take a hike!

Physics Heating and Air Conditioning

Don Washbrook, owner and operator of Physics Heating and Air Conditioning in Saugus is giving back to the community.

After years of hard work and growing his business, Don has reached a point where he has achieved success and wants to return the favor.

Don is launching ‘Operation Angel Air’.  He is volunteering his labor and some parts to people in the area that really need it.

Don has reached out to local Senior Centers and informed them of Operation Angel Air, so I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before they take him up on his generous offer.

It’s nice to see local businesses take care of their community like this.

Dog Killed at the Polynesian Mobile Home Park

It was a sad day at the Polynesian Mobile Home Park in Newhall yesterday.  Not only was an 8 year old girl bit by a Rottweiler/Pitbull mix,  on top of that the dog was shot and killed.

After reading the Signal article, it’s sounds like somewhat of a ‘he said she said’ situation right now, so it’s hard for me to determine how things really went down over there.

Fortunately, the 8 year old girl’s injury was able to be treated by 3 stitches in her arm.

Santa Clarita Open Space on YouTube

Has anyone else seen these signs all over town?

YouTube Open Space

Well, I did just that. I went to YouTube and searched for ‘open space tax’ and had an opportunity to watch lots of clips made by local residents who are passionately against the open space tax.

Whether you are for the open space tax or against it, the videos are interesting and informative. Ya think the tax supporters will make any videos?

Anyway, being the internet geek I am, I think the YouTube videos are genius. Who is this ‘vintageyellow71′??

Keeping Safe on the 4th

Many of us are looking forward to the July 4th festivities. Maybe you have a pool party or barbecue planned, or maybe you will be out of town. Make sure that your pets are safe during this time as it can be a very upsetting and potentially dangerous time for them.

Keep fireworks and party poppers as far from pets as possible. I have had friends who have lost dear four legged family members because they took off out of fear. The noise we so eagerly wait to hear can be frightening to our animals. Fireworks can be dangerous physically as well. Keep your animals confined and away from the noise, where they feel safe and don’t feel the need to run away. This is also a time to remind our youth that animals have feelings and feel pain too. Don’t do anything to harm them. Keep plenty of water on hand if you are out of town and make sure that they have shelter from the heat. Ask a neighbor to look in on them or hire a good pet sitter to insure that they will be healthy and eager to see you upon your return.
