Thefts are on the Rise in Santa Clarita

The Signal reported today that there has been a rise in purse snatchings.  A few incidents were reported at Marshall’s and at Target.

This is a financially stressful time for everyone and some are tempted and do steal.  If a thief sees a purse sitting there, he might somehow justify the theft in his sick mind.  He may say, oh it was meant to be, the purse was just sitting there waiting for me to take it.  It is twisted I know, but that’s how thieves think.

As a resident of a city that is growing so rapidly, one must have street smarts.  A few basic tips that can come in handy…Lock your cars.  Keep your purse on your arm…and zipped closed!  When getting gas, take your keys out and lock your car. (Don’t leave your purse sitting there on the seat either)  Lock your house.

We need to be vigilant and not drop our guard just because we live in one of the top safest cities in the country.

Robbery at Telesis Credit Union

Yesterday the Telesis Credit Union at The Promenade at 27093 McBean Parkway was robbed.  Apparently a gunman wearing a stocking held up the branch at about 3pm then got away in a blue vehicle.  Witnesses say that there was no indication there was a robbery going on.  No one was aware of it until the police should up moments later.  Fortunately there were no injuries as a result of this robbery.  The amount stolen has not been disclosed.

Santa Clarita West Creek & West Hills Community

I have the good fortune of living across the street from the West Creek/West Hills development in Santa Clarita.  I am sure when this is all done and over that this will be a beautiful community with fabulous shopping, yada yada.  What new community in Santa Clarita isn’t?  It’s just the growth period is miserable.

The construction on Copperhill is really taking a toll.  Everyday the traffic of the one lane jam packed road in the morning is beginning to be unbearable.  It doesn’t help that the construction vehicles drive up and down and around making illegal u-turns during school drop off and pick up times.

You’d think the crews could have a little bit of courtesy when they see how packed the streets are from 7:25-7:45.  Could they just do something else for a few minutes and help save the sanity of all us parents and carpoolers that are trying to get the kids to school on time?

Today, Copperhill looks like it may be close to being completed.  Adding 2 lanes to the traffic will be a huge help.  I just hope that they are almost at that point.  They had laid down a fresh layer of asphalt today on one half of the street.  Usually that means tomorrow will get the other half, etc.  So maybe by the New Year it’ll be done.  Ironic that school will be out for 3 weeks, so we won’t really see the impact til 1/17/07, but whatever.

I guess it’s the price we pay for valuable Santa Clarita Real Estate, but when will it end?

Changing Magic Mountain Pkwy

Just read an article that there is talk out in the city to change the name of Magic Mountain Pkwy to Santa Clarita Auto Center Drive.  What a horrible idea.  First of all, it’s hard to say.  Second… what a horrible idea.

The reason behind it has to do with the auto dealers wanting to bring awareness that they are there.  Great!  How about a billboard or a flashing sign?  Maybe a hot air balloon.  Anything else might work, but don’t change the name of the street.  That is really a lame idea.

You know what would be nice is if the city focused on fixing the traffic problems that are fixable immediately if someone would invest the time.  Leave the names of the streets as they are.  Please.

I wonder if the same genius that thought of the Santa Clarita Trolley came up with this gem.

All Night Long

My friend and I spent the night outside Circuit City on the Old Rd to get a Nintendo Wii.  It was cold.  We arrived there fully bundled up, umbrellas and all because there was rain in the forecast.  Luckily, not a drop fell that night or it would’ve really been bad.  There were 9 of us crazy people that sat there for hours waiting to purchase the Wii.  Circuit City only had 9 of them.

Finally after the wait at 7:30 in the morning they let us into the store to make our purchase.  Victory!  I still don’t know if it was worth the wait because I haven’t played it yet.

At any rate, it was an experience that hopefully will never happen again.

Cobblestone Cottage No Longer Carries Radko Ornaments

Cobblestone Cottage no longer carried Christopher Radko ornaments. ?

I am so sad to find out that our Santa Clarita Radko connection no longer carries these beautiful collectible ornaments. Every year I relied on Cobblestone Cottage to supply me with a fabulous assortment of Radko ornaments for my collection. This year however, I was let down. They no longer carry them. The closest store that carries these ornaments is in Chatsworth according to a salesperson at Cobblestone Cottage.

I ended up having to drive down to Bloomingdale’s in Sherman Oaks to get my Radko’s this year. The selection was not comparable to what Cobblestone Cottage had, but it fit the need for the moment. Next year, I’ll have to order online.

Too bad…more tax dollars leaking out of the SCV.

Santa Clarita Hometown Trolley

I was driving by the post office yesterday and coming out of the driveway by the Elephant Bar was the Santa Clarita Hometown Trolley.  I mean I guess it’s cute and fun and all, but frustrating when I am stuck in a traffic jam by the post office because the traffic division of our city hasn’t taken the time to resolve this problem area.  So somebody had time to figure that a trolley would be a good use of our resources to promote public transportation, but couldn’t take time to do something about the major congestion intersections?  I said this before, all they would need to do is extend the left turn lane there and they could fit another 6-8 cars, so that the flow of the traffic doesn’t tail onto the lanes that are supposed to be moving.

The trolley, like I said is cute, but IMO very unnecessary.

Apparently, the trolley will be running free of charge initially until a formal route is announced.
