Drunk Driver Kills Local Resident

This will be my last post for 2006.

I opened the paper this morning and saw that a local man, Jeffery Austin was killed by a drunk driver on San Fernando Rd yesterday evening.  My heart goes out to his family and I hope that the news of his untimely death hits people today before they go out and drink and drive this evening.  Maybe his death will save a few lives tonight.

Wishing Santa Clarita a happy, prosperous and safe new year.

Rosie’s BBQ and Grillery

Rosie’s BBQ and Grillery is coming to the Westfield Town Center sometime in January. I’ve been to the Rosie’s in Northridge and it was pretty good. This is a fun trendy BBQ joint, great for families. Definitely worth a try. The cool thing also is that they offer free delivery within their boundaries. They have not posted the boundaries yet. If you don’t take my word for it, check out these reviews.

Anyway, Rosie’s will be located across from Brookstone at the mall. I think this location will attract more traffic than the Café Melisse. Let’s see if this eatery can last longer than the other two restaurants that were there.

Copperhill Is Open

Copperhill is now wide open.  After all of my complaining, it was so worth the wait.  Turning onto Copperhill today I was pleasantly surprised to see it had become a 3 lane road.

Driving into the Gateway Center I noticed that it looks like they might be opening Newhall Ranch Rd enough to be able to turn into the Gateway Center.  The signals are up and the road looks almost ready.  Looking to the west from the parking lot entrance, you can see the makings of the soon to be Newhall Ranch Rd that will take you straight to the 5 freeway.

The End of the Rainbow

What’s at the end of a rainbow?  If I would not have seen it with my own eyes yesterday I wouldn’t believe it.  Right in the middle of the dry Santa Clara River bed off of McBean and Copperhill, there is was… the end of the rainbow.  Or the beginning, I guess it depends on how you look at it.  Perhaps it was an optical illusion, but I’d swear on it.  I hate the fact that I did not have a camera, but I swear it was right there.  I did not see a pot of gold though, just the end of the rainbow.

Santa Clarita Lanes

Santa Clarita Lanes is located at 21615 W Soledad Canyon Road in Saugus, CA. Ph.661-254-0540.  They are right by Foster’s Freeze.

We went here the week between Christmas and New Year’s.  Who knew it was such a hot spot.  We couldn’t even get a lane until after 9, and the line was about 45 people deep.

We had a good time.  It cost $10 per person to bowl.  There is a Vincenzo’s Pizza attached to the bowling alley, so you can get some good munchies while you play.

Be on the look out for mullets.  They are all over the place.  If you like to people watch, you’ll really enjoy yourself here.

Magic Mountain Pkwy Keeps It’s Name

The city and local auto dealers agreed that changing Magic Mountain Pkwy to Santa Clarita Auto Center Drive was a bad idea.  Fortunately many residents voiced there opposition loud enough for it to be heard.  Even county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, was opposed and sent a letter to Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean.  His letter stated that it “insults Magic Mountain” and was “ill-timed given my efforts to keep this property as a theme park.”

My husband suggested that we write a letter stating that if they did do that, the next car we bought would not be from Santa Clarita.  Luckily, the issue was closed before we had to do that.

Frankly, I can’t even believe it was ever an option.

Santa Clarita Fine Dining

Fine dining coming to Santa Clarita sounds fantastic.  I totally agree that we need to bring more high end chains up here.  There are a lot of restaurants up here, but on weekends, they are all soooo crowded.  The wait times are just not worth it.  I mean you can drive down to Ventura Blvd and be seated quicker than waiting up here to eat at Chili’s.  What’s wrong with that picture?

Anyway, here’s a funny story…A few years ago my friend called Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse to make a reservation.  When the hostess took the information, she asked my friend for her phone number.  My friend responded…”661-“  The hostess stopped her and said “661?  Maam, do you know where you are calling?”  We still laugh about that.
