Day Fire Under Control

Finally, the news reported this morning that the Day Fire is 60% contained.  This fire has cost about 53 million dollars and burned over 160,000 acres.  5000 fire fighters have worked tirelessly to get this under control.  Hopefully the weather will continue to help keep the flames from spreading beyond control.

Day 24 of the Day Fire

There were a lot of evacuations that took place yesterday in the Lockwood Valley and Frazier Park areas.  Residents where asked to voluntarily leave there homes and gather at Frazier Park High School to take shelter as the fire came closer to their neighborhoods.

The fire has burned over 160,000 acres as of today and has destroyed seven structures and a few vehicles in its path.  None of which were occupied.  Fire officials are considering moving residents as far as Bakersfield while evacuation efforts continue.

It has been said that if we don’t get any rain soon, this fire could burn through to December.  With the winds kicking up, things keep getting worse.

This is the 5th largest fire in the history of the State of California.

Sheriff’s Standoff in Canyon Country

A two hour standoff ended in an arrest of a Burbank man yesterday in Canyon Country.  This took place at the Diamond Park Apartment Complex on Dolan Way and Solamint Rd.

Mark Hillman, 53, was taking anti-depressants and barricaded himself in an apartment after grabbing a resident with a knife to her throat.  After evacuating the area and several phone conversations with the suspect, police sent in the K-9 unit who bit the suspect enough so the police could restrain him.  The woman that he grabbed was found shaken up, but safe.

My View is More Rosie

Okay, so a few weeks ago I commented on how I hated Rosie on The View.  I did say I would give her a week to see if she’d grow on me.  After the first episode I was so upset that I even emailed Barbara Walters telling her how upset I was.  My main complaint was that they totally dissed Steve Irwin’s tragic story that day and started talking about Rosie and her kids and then talking about the new movie Hollywoodland.  They barely discussed the death of our crocodile hunter.

I was pleased to see the next day they made up for it.  They even touched upon the fact that they didn’t discuss it like they should have. (Maybe Barbara got my email.)

So now a few weeks later…Rosie has chilled a bit.  She’s toned it down and I don’t feel like it’s the Rosie Show anymore.

However, I could have done without hearing how she did a nude scene in Nip and Tuck.  She probably could have kept that one to herself. ;-)

Fire Strikes Santa Clarita in Riverside

It appears that a Hart High School graduate was killed last week in Riverside as a result of a house fire.  The charred remains of Rebecca Annaleigh Friedli was found outside of a house fire between Palm Springs and Hemet.  According to Hart School District officials Rebecca was a 2005 graduate and a good student.  What a tragic ending for this poor girl.

Teen Hit at Starbucks

A female Rio Norte student had her foot run over by a car today after school in front of the Starbucks on Copperhill and Tesoro Del Valle.  Fire trucks and an ambulance were on the scene by 2:30pm.  The student suffered a broken bone in her foot.

The traffic at Rio Norte is so bad because there is only one lane around the whole school.  Many students walk to the local Starbucks to get picked up by parents there.  There are usually about 100-150 students roaming the parking lot at 2:15 everyday.  Many of these students walk out in front of cars without looking.  I don’t know how this girl was hit, but regardless it is not a safe place to be at that time.  There are lots of cars trying to maneuver around lots of kids.

Don’t Be a Jackass!

Jackass the movie opened number one all over the country including Santa Clarita Valley. If you didn’t purchase your tickets on Fandango you were out of luck.

This movie is rated R for good reason, but some parents felt it was there duty to take their kids to see it. I don’t really know what kind of an impression these kids leave with after seeing a movie like that. Do they leave thinking how cool and they can’t wait to go try some of the things they just saw? Or do they leave thinking how stupid the jackass’s are in the movie. I’m sure there is a mix of both.

If you were at the Edwards Cinema Sunday evening and you thought you felt a sprinkle of rain while walking in front of Bucca de Bepo…hopefully you didn’t look up otherwise you would have seen a local teen peeing off the top of the building. Local authorities arrested the boy, but not before he released his large soda on unsuspecting movie goers.

That’s pretty gross.
