Some of the sponsors include: Washington Mutual, Parkway Supercenter, Westfield Valencia Town Center, Hyatt, Clif Bar, Whole Foods, Newhall Coffee, Albertsons, Mountasia and many more. For a full list of sponsors and to find out more about this event, check out the official website for the SC Marathon.
Central Park closed
Central Park will be used as a base camp for the Fire Department due to the local fire off the 14 freeway. All practices at Central Park must be cancelled effective Tuesday, August 29th and possibly through the week. There is no telling how long the Fire Department will use Central Park, the City will be updated on a day to day basis.
Update on the Terry Miller Memorial Park
Got an email this morning from Rick Gould of the City Parks Dept. He informed me that the Terry Miller Memorial Park is a private recreation area/park for the new development similar to the area built in Tesoro, so it will be neither City or County and will likely be controlled by the new HOA for the Westcreek development.
Apparently, they are also building a park behind Rio Norte. Still, nothing with more softball fields and lights though. We need more parks with lights in the city. Between soccer and football, the current parks that we have can’t handle the parking or the traffic.
Santa Clarita Street Art Fair - formerly “Bella Via”
Street painting at it’s finest. This festival of multi-colored chalk was also once known as Bella Via. It used to be held at the Valencia Town Center, but for whatever reason is now in it’s second year in downtown Newhall.
This is a fun event and great for the entire family. There is food, shopping, street painting and many other activities to entertain all ages.
Save the dates for this great event. October 7-8 2006.

Brush fire in Placerita Canyon
I’m looking out my window and I can see the smoke filling the air on the south side of town. It’s not black smoke, so I am hoping it is under control at this point.
Apparently a fire broke out at about 10 am this morning near the 14 and Placerita Canyon. So far no danger to homes has been reported, but it has burned about 500 acres of land.

Who was Terry Miller?
There was a great article in the Signal today about the Terry Miller ride. Incase you’ve forgotten who he was…he was the superintendent of the Newhall Land and Farming Co. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident August 29, 2005.
It’s a great article…click here to read it.
Terry Miller Memorial Park
The Terry Miller Memorial Park is being built across the street from Rio Norte Junior High by the Tesoro del Valle homes. I live in Tesoro del Valle. I’ve been trying to find information online about this park. It looks massive. I want to know mainly if there will be softball fields there with lights. Not too difficult of a question, or so I thought.
