Zumba at the Spectrum

zumba Zumba at the SpectrumYou may have heard of it, you may have seen it or maybe you have already Zumba’d.  Either way, you must check out the Zumba class that is held at the Spectrum Health Club in Santa Clarita.  This class goes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4:30.  The teacher (Marion) is awesome.  She is fun and keeps the class going non stop for a full hour.

Zumba is a blend of salsa, merengue and a little hip hop.  The music is energizing and the routines are learned over about 5-6 classes, so don’t go to one then give up.

You can set the tone for your own work our and go slow or hit it hard.  You can burn between 500-800 calories in an hour Zumba class depending on how much you are pushing yourself.  You will see for yourself that a handful of ladies are “really” in to it and leave there dripping sweat as if they where just on “So You Think You can Dance”. Seriously, nothing wrong with that, I want to be just like them when I grow up.

Sooooo if you are looking to Zumba, stop by the Spectrum M,W,F for the 4:30 class.  Whear comfy shoes (or just socks).

Not a member? No problem, the Spectrum will give you a 1-3 day free trial if you ask.  Actually if you think of it, ask for Bill.  Tell him Barbara Boser sent you. :)   Hey seriously I could use a few referrals to get my membership fees down a bit.

See you there!!!

10 Reasons Why I Think Spectrum is the Best Gym in the SCV

With the New Year rolling in, many of us will be making resolutions to lose weight right? I know I always do.  I recently converted from LA Fitness to Spectrum and LOVE it.  I know it IS more expensive.  Very true.  However, I think it’s worth it.  I think you really have to like where you work out in order to go there.  Here are my favorite things about Spectrum Health Clubs.

  • Towels - They provide towel service with no limit on how many you can use.
  • Cleanliness - There is always an employee there cleaning the equipment.  I can’t recall getting on a machine and realizing it was dirty.
  • Staff - They are NICE.  All of them.  I am always greeted with a smile.
  • Machines - There are LOTS.  It is VERY rare that I have to wait to use a machine.
  • Private Classrooms – There are many classes and 3 rooms.  In the evening you can go and work out in one of the rooms alone if you want some privacy.
  • Steam - I love that they offer a sauna AND a steam room.  The steam is so good for your skin.
  • Locks - Most all of the lockers have locks attached.  All you have to do is change the code and put your stuff away.  No more worrying about bringing or buying locks.
  • Locker Rooms – One word…CLEAN…there is often an employee cleaning.  The locker rooms are big and have private showers.  They also provide soap, shampoo, q-tips, hairspray and mouthwash. (Oh and all the towels you will need.)
  • TVs – Almost all of the treadmills and elliptical machines have your own separate TV.  This (besides the towels) is my favorite thing.  No more having to read what you are watching.  Just bring your headphones.
  • ZUMBA - There is a certified Zumba instructor and they offer 3 classes a week.

So there they are, my favorite things about Spectrum Health Club.  If you join, ask for Bill.  He is my favorite.  Please tell him Barbara Boser sent you and maybe I’ll get a referral bonus. :)

Spectrum is located across the Hyatt by the mall.  Still not sure?  You don’t have to take my word for it.  They will offer you a free work out to see if you like it.

Skate Park is Off the Hook

Ryan BoserHats off to everyone involved in the new Santa Clarita skate park.  Word is it is “the best skate park ever”.  Personally, I have been to many skate parks all over the country and I have never seen anything like this.  A few residents were invited to a pre-launch skate afternoon to christen the park and the crowd was loving it.  Aside from the fact that all the parents and spectators were (um) in the skate park and “in the way” it still was beyond any expectation.

A few things for parents to remember while at the skate park:dsc07386-300x225 Skate Park is Off the Hook That thing by the stairs, you know the railing, well at a skate park it is an obstacle so don’t lean on it or stand by it.

dsc07390-300x225 Skate Park is Off the Hook
The ledge, you know at the top of the bowl, not a place to put your stroller.

The steps around the park, not for your butt, don’t rest there.

This is likely one of the best skate parks in the country.  As a skater mom, I am so happy and grateful that the kids have this now.
