Valencia Vikings Advance to the CIF Championship

As the defending national champs made the drive to Corona today to play Santiago in the semi-finals, they knew they had a chance to beat Corona two years in a row on their home field.  They did just that.  Jessica Spigner came up with a two run home run in her first at bat with a 2-0 count and then ripped another shot in her second at bat off the first pitch.  The final score was 3-2 and the Vikings will face Simi Valley in the Finals this weekend in Irvine.

Check out the last out with two runners on.

Good luck to the Lady Vikings!!!

Vikings Win Volleyball CIF Championship

Congratulations to the Valencia High School Boys Volleyball team who won their CIF championship game tonight against Santa Barbara. This is the Vikings 4th CIF championship (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008).

Hart and Valencia Baseball Go Out in Quarter Finals

Two local teams battled til they were defeated yesterday in the CIF Southern Section Div I play-offs. (Hart by Long Beach Wilson and VHS by Simi Valley) All good things must come to an end, but all that means for these talented athletes is that summer scouting will begin early for them.  Many of these boys will be playing on their scout team as early as this weekend.  In fact, there is a tournament going on today in Huntington Beach.  So while the CIF championship is out of reach, these boys are still top contenders for great accomplishments on the field this summer.

Valencia Softball Advances to Semi-Finals

The Lady Vikings defeated Corona today on their home field 6-0 which pushed them up the bracket into the semi finals.  Hart lost their battle today at Newhall Park when they gave up one precious run to Norco leaving the final score at 1-0.  The Indians had a dominant team this year and the girls have nothing to be ashamed of.  They battled hard every game and did not go down easily.

Congrats to a tough group of Lady Vikings to be the only team in the SCV to advance to the CIF Southern Section semi-final game.  Valencia will face off against Santiago (Corona) High School.  This will be a tough re-match for the girls because the Vikings beat Santiago last year in this spot in the bracket, so the team from Corona will be HUNGRY to say the least.  VHS lost to Santiago in the Nike Faster to First tournament earlier this season.  There will be a coin flip to determine who will have home field advantage next Tuesday.

GO VIKINGS!!

Roadtrip Nation

Just found something cool to share with my extreme sports readers.

Roadtrip Nation — is a documentary series (featured on PBS, MSN, Fuel TV) that encourages young people to explore careers and define their own roads in life.

They have an opportunity that might be of interest to you: Roadtrip Nation is currently seeking individuals who are passionate about action sports (and possibly considering a career in the field) to take part in their first-ever action sports-themed roadtrip this summer.  Food, transportation, lodging, and roundtrip flights to Los Angeles for selected applicants will all be covered by Roadtrip Nation.

The deadline to enter is fast approaching (May 19th) so if you want to apply go to their website here.

2008 Dodger Day

Even though I am a die hard Angel’s fan I’ll go ahead and put this out there because…well…it is baseball season now after all. :)

Santa Clarita Dodger day is Saturday June 7th with a 1pm game time.  You can purchase tickets through W.S. Hart Baseball at the canteen or through Washington Mutual Banks throughout the valley.   Quantities are limited, so if you want to go with a big group I wouldn’t wait too much longer.

The Dodgers play the Cubs that day, but SCV day at Dodger stadium is typically a fun day and they also have some pre-game activities where usually some local kids are chosen to go out on to the field.  Chances are you’ll know at least one of the kids out there.
