I was just reading this very ‘soft’ review on the KHTS website. I would have liked to comment there, but couldn’t find a comment box on the site to do that, so here are my 2 cents.

I think the food truck festival was poorly planned and whoever planned it would be so fired if Donald Trump had anything to say about it.

For starters, the placement of the trucks was ridiculous.  They were so close together and the lines criss crossing over the walk ways was confusing and frustrating.  Anybody that had ever been to a food truck event could have foreseen that.  The trucks needed to be much farther apart and some line markers would have made it run smoother.

The parking was just stupid, but we knew that going in.  The thing that was frustrating was that they weren’t allowing people in to the parking lot at one point at all, so there was people forced to make u-turns and the traffic around the event was a total cluster.  A good solution would have been to having pre-established parking lot signs pointing to Herritage Park, Bridgeport or even the shopping center where Panera is.  I was expecting the parking to be a nightmare and was fine with that, because I’ve lived here long enough to know the entire city would show up.  (Unlike whoever thought there would only be 2000-3000 people there.) Oh and by the way, I noticed there was a VIP parking area. LOL Seriously? WTF? Why?

The video taping.  That was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.  It explained it all.  In my opinion someone (home builders or the city or both) may have been trying to make this video that portrayed this to be a fun and perfectly executed event in Awesometown.  They may have been trying to show that Santa Clarita is so hip and fun and oh look how happy everyone is.  I would guess that that is how the video will be edited anyway. One more attempt at trying to make us look so awesome and perfect to the rest of the world.

Location. Sucked.  Let’s see Saugus Swapmeet, COC or Central Park may have worked out a little better.

Food. Well I wouldn’t know because I didn’t stand in the line.  I’m sure it was good.

So thanks Santa Clarita for ruining my Saturday night.  I fell for it.  I thought you guys would actually have your act together on this one, but I was so wrong.

Next time you plan something anywhere near the realm of cool and hip, can you please assume the entire city will be there and plan accordingly? KTHXBAI

I have never been in all the years I have lived here, but after receiving a great deal from Screaming Coupons I am gonna go.  I went to the website and saw that David Coulier (aka Uncle Joey from Full House) will be performing on August 13th and 14th.

There are 10 playing fields spread across 37 acres of paint ball heaven ready for you and your friends to come and shoot each other.

Make sure you wear thick clothing when you hit the dirt.  Getting hit by a paint ball is likely to leave a bruise, so the more padding you have, the better.

Paint ball parties can be lots of fun.  This is a great place to host a private group for birthdays or bachelor parties, etc.  Give them a call to see if they can accommodate you, but with 10 fields, it should not be too hard to get you in.

The Iron Circus is a new type of fundraiser brought to Santa Clarita residents by LETMESAIL.  The Iron Circus is presented by Metal Mulisha and features 6 pro motocross riders exhibiting their top level freestyle performances at heights up to 35 feet in the air.  With gaps as wide as 75 feet, these mid air tricks will surely have you holding your breath as the riders glide through the air.

This event will take place at Saugus Speedway on May 30th. Gates open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.  This is a CASH ONLY event, so don’t be the geek with the credit card holding up the line.  Tickets are $20 for adults and kids under 12 are $10.

All proceeds from this event will benefit LETMESAIL who’s focus is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with special needs.

The City of Santa Clarita’s Annual Arts and Crafts Show is slated for June 13-14 and Nov 14-15 2009 Sat 10-6 and Sun 10-5.  The show will be held at it’s normal spot on Lyons, Old Orchard Park.  There will be lots of booth vendors set up displaying their works of art or at least what they think is a work of art as well as food and music.

The fair is always a fun day to walk and browse to your hearts delight.  There are many one of a kind items available and it’s nice to actually meet the creator/artist of whatever treasure you are buying that day.  This is a great way to support your community and stimulate some local economy.  Bring your walking shoes, an appetite and your wallet.

The city has arranged a day trip to the Hollywood Magic Castle.  The Magic Castle sits atop the hill off of Franklin and Orange and is normally a members only club.  On Saturday May 16th from 10:45 to 4:15 the historic Hollywood club will be open to Santa Clarita residents.

In order to take advantage of this offer SCV residents can register at the Aquatics Center.  The press release says you can register at the city website, but I can’t find a link to the registration anywhere. For more information you can contact Lisa Nikkila at 284-1465.

The Magic Castle is a fun place. I have only been in the evening, but once you are inside you wouldn’t know if it was day or night.  There are a few shows and theaters within the club and a nice big dining room upstairs.  From what I remember there is a strict dress code, but the city press release does not address that.

Tickets for this excursion cost $92 and the last day to register is Friday May 8th at 5pm.

In prior years this event has been host to about 400 Santa Clarita families.  They also will possibly be needing volunteers so if you are interested in spending a few hours giving back to the community give them a call and see if they need any help.

Last year’s events included a community baby shower, maternity fashion show, big belly contest, prizes, a jumper and more. They also gave complimentary massages and mini facials to honor the mom’s that attended the event.
