I never in a million years thought I would ever get an airbrush tan. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it’s just not something I would have ever thought to do, but when Kasey of Faking It Flawless contacted me to let me know they had opened up right here in my back yard I was intrigued. Kasey was so sweet and offered to tan me so I would have a chance to stop by and check out her new place.  So I did and I am tan now! Not orange or any other shade of orange, just a perfect summer glow.

The airbrush tan experience is fun.  Kasey put me right at ease by letting me know everything that would happen. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes.  It is basically exactly what it sounds like.  Your entire body gets airbrushed.  You can choose to go nude or wear a bathing suit or under wear.  Whatever you wear will get the solution on it, but it washes off pretty easily.

This is wear the magic happens.

You stand on this while your body is evenly sprayed.  First your are covered with a base coat that is loaded with anti-oxidants and other anti-aging components.  It’s pretty much a base coat so the tan goes on smoothly.

This is the bad boy that tans you.  It’s not a little airbrush by the way, it’s more like blow dryer size.  You can choose how dark you want to be and you can also get a lighter shade on your face. When you are done you will need to leave the solution on for 6-8 hours before you shower.  You will receive both pre-tanning instructions as well as post tanning rules.  The tan can last up to 10 days with proper care and moisturizing.

I headed to Palm Springs the day after and have received 2 compliments on my tan AND most importantly I got carded! Yes that is always exciting, but I credit it to the healthy color I received from Faking it Flawless.  Thank you Kasey for the complimentary pampering.  I will definitely indulge and do this again before my next vacation.

The Make Up Throne

There is a new “eco-friendly” car wash in town.  Couch Potato Car Wash is based in the parking lot at the Westfield Town Center.  When you drive in to the parking lot you might see the red and white hats popping in and up from in between cars.

The way it works is that the kids wash the cars in the parking lot so you don’t need to drive it anywhere.  They approach you and ask you if you want a wash and if you do, then you pay for it right there.  When you come out, your car is clean.  It takes about 15-30 minutes and they use less then half a gallon of water to wash your whole car.

It costs a little more then a traditional car wash, but think of the water saved and you are helping out the youth of the SCV. All the car washers (so far) are local teens.

I’m not sure the hours, but I think they are open Thursday-Sunday for now.

The construction will focus on streetscaping.  Basically that means they will be tearing up the sidewalks between 6th St and 8th St and adding landscaping, benches, trash cans, lamp posts, etc.  One major change will be bulb-outs in the sidewalks.  At intersections the sidewalk will stick out a bit and curve.  Supposedly this ‘calms down’ traffic.  Anyone remember the brilliant “back in parking”?  Let’s hope the bulb-outs are done in a way that won’t freak everybody out.  Sometimes too much change is just not a good thing.

At ant rate, businesses WILL BE OPEN, so support the businesses in Newhall so they are still around after this major upgrade which is costing about 2.5 million dollars.

The event will be held at The Hyatt on May 15, 2009 and tickets cost $60 per person which includes breakfast and lunch.  Some highlights will be keynote speaker Nigel Lythgoe of So You Think You Can Dance Fame and many more speakers that will be announced at a later date.

Seriously, there are some stores that have gone in that I think sadly will just not make it through these economic times as I can only guess the rent there is pretty expensive, but some of them are really quite good.  You’ll have to go check em out yourself to see.  As with anything new in Santa Clarita, the restaurants are slammed on Friday and Saturday nights so plan ahead and don’t go at that time if you’re starving.

There are more shops by the way and a CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) going in.  There’s a Yoga place, a massage place, Verizon Wireless, Walgreens, oh and SCOI (Southern Ca Orthopedic Institute).

I think they are also building a church? Not sure about that, but it’s what I’ve heard.

I will say my only complaint is the parking lot is kind of weird as far as maneuvering in and out and there are way too many handicap parking spots. No offense, but I have yet to go there and see them all full.

The city is offering a low-cost pet clinic on Saturday May 17th from 9:30-11am at Santa Clarita Park.  They are offering low-cost vaccinations, license renewal and free micro-chipping.

The City of Santa Clarita in cooperation with Los Angeles County is sponsoring the Annual Pet Vaccination Clinic that will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Santa Clarita Park. The offered services for dog owners who attend the Clinic include low-cost vaccinations, license renewal and micro-chipping for their pet.

The vaccinations offered include Rabies for $6, the six-in-one vaccination, which includes Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenze and Parvovius, for $14 and the Bordetella vaccination for $11. Rabies vaccinations are required by state law for all dogs over four months old. The pet micro-chipping will also be offered and will be free of charge.

To renew or receive a license for your dog proof of spay or neuter is required, so bring your pet’s Certificate of Sterility. The prices to purchase your license at the pet clinic are as follows: “spayed or neutered dog” – $20 and an “unaltered dog” – $60.00 (to qualify for the “unaltered” license fee you must fill out and have Exemption Application.) Additionally, there is a discount offered to seniors, allowing them to obtain a license for their dogs for $7.50. Most dog licenses expire by June 30th and if not renewed by this date, a penalty fee may incur.

Dogs must be on appropriate leashes with adequate collars to receive a vaccination or a license. Both cash and check will be accepted at the pet clinic. If you are licensing and vaccinating your dog and paying by check, please bring a separate check for each service.
