Big League Dreams Park in the SCV

I was pleased to see the headline in the Signal this morning with news that the city council had voted to start the process of bringing a Big League Dream Park to Santa Clarita.  This will be a great addition to the city as it will provide new fields for adult softball programs to play at, therefore opening up city parks for youth teams to practice and play.

Laurie Ender (who is running for Santa Clarita city council in 2008) had a nice write up about this back in June of 2007.

The location of the facility has yet to be determined, but I’m guessing it’ll be somewhere by the 126/5 area.  At least I hope so, since that’s where the new hotels are and it’d be easy freeway access since many people travel from out of town to bring their kids to tournaments at the BLD.

If you’ve never been to one, it’s pretty cool.  I’ll tell you a day at the BLD is expensive.  They charge you a few bucks to get in and there is absolutely no food or beverages allowed to be brought in.  They even search the kid’s bat bags and take out anything other than a water bottle.  So you’re forced to buy beverages and food there.

The bonus is that they serve alcohol there and you can watch the games from inside the restaurant.  This is great on a cold windy day.  You can sit in the restaurant and watch a game on TV while your watching your kids game and maybe even enjoying a cocktail.

  1. When do you expect to open BLD and are public funds going to be used to finance it?
