Evacuation List
Mother Nature has spared us here in the SCV today, but be prepared
in case you wake up to a smoke filled sky. Here are some things you
can do to prepare yourself in the event of an evacuation.
- Determine what you will take with you and have it all centrally located. Make a list now when you are not rushed, so you don’t forget anything important.
- Have empty plastic tubs available so you can easily and quickly pack things up.
- Contact relatives out of state and let them know where you will be planning to go in the event you have to evacuate.
- Make a video of your home and all of your belongings. Keep it in a safe place outside of your home.
- Back up any computers you have and keep the files in a secure spot. You may only have room to take one computer during an evacuation.
- Know where you will go. If you will have to go to a hotel, have a plan as to witch one and if they have room or get a list of local hotels so you can call them from the car.
- Make sure all of your cell phone batteries are charged. You may need to be on the phone for a while trying to make arrangements and you’ll need your battery.
- If you have kids in school, know the evacuation plan. Know where you will need to pick the kids up and what the procedure will be.
- Make sure your personal documents such as passports, birth certificates, home documents, etc are all secure and kept together so you can easily grab them.
- Have a plan for your animals. Contact local shelters and ask if they have a waiting list or what they will make available in the event of an evacuation.
- Clean out your car. Make room so you can just pack up your car quickly without having to un-pack it first. Make sure your trunk is empty and have an idea of
how much room you actually have so you know what you’ll be able to take.
These are just a few things that I went through last year when we
had to evacuate. If you can think of any other advice, please add it
to the comments.
Sesnon Fire - Porter Ranch, Chatsworth, Simi Valley
If you’ve been outside today you probably saw the smoke over the sky of the San Fernando Valley. It’s here. Fire season has landed and it’s coming out strong. The fire burning over Porter Ranch is threatening homes and appears to be moving toward Chatsworth and Simi Valley. There are parts of the 118 freeway that are closed and residents are being asked to evacuate the Porter Ranch area. The wind is blowing toward the west, so communities such as Hidden Hills and Calabasas are also being warned to be prepared.
There has been one fatality today as a man that appeared to be living in his car and was trapped and burned.
It’s happening somewhere else today, but be prepared because we could be next. Don’t forget how quickly it happened last year.
Colorful Trash
This is totally random and I know most you you don’t give a crap, but I needed something to blog about today and went out to take out my recyclables and again had to think about what trash can I was putting them in. See as of last week, we have a new trash company I think. I’m not sure because I threw out the letter they sent me. I didn’t really care or pay attention until I got my new trash cans.
Now here’s the tricky part. The BLUE one is actually now the recycle can, the BLACK one is actually trash and the GREEN one is for lawn clippings. So why did they have to confuse me like this? How long will it take for me to stop throwing my trash in the blue one? A big sticker on the front would’ve been nice.
Child and Family Center Kid Expo
Sunday, October 19th the Child & Family Center will be holding their 6th annual Kid Expo at Golden Valley High School. Redstone Hall
Redstone Hall will be performing at Primo’s Restaurant in Santa Clarita on October 18th at 7pm.
The band has a huge fan base and are such a local favorite! Their album is being produced by Gerry Casale, of the ’80’s group, DEVO, and the guys are building quite a momentum. They performed at South by Southwest this year and play all over the LA area, bringing a ton of fans with them everywhere they go. They played at the Universal CityWalk for this year’s Summer Concert Series along with American Idol’s Justin Guarini.
Steven Rothstein, (lead vocals/keys) Zack Hall (guitar/vocals), Mac Hadar (bass) and Mike Nussbaum (drums) were born and raised in Los Angeles.
Hometown favorites, they consistently pack many L.A. venues including The Roxy, Whiskey, Molly Malones, KeyClub, Hard Rock Cafe, B.B. King’s Blues Club, Bovard Hall (USC), Dragonfly and the Viper Room to name a few.
They won at the Las Vegas AMPLIFY Music Festival in early August, competing against 150 other bands.
More information and a sample of their music can be
found at their website.
Primo’s Restaurant is located at 28200 Bouquet Canyon Rd. Santa Clarita, CA 91350
