2008 Student Summer Bus Passes

The City of Santa Clarita’s Transit division is teaming up this summer with local businesses to offer students a Summer Bus Passport for the month of July. The Passport is a new student bus pass with benefits, and was created to allow Santa Clarita Valley students a summer experience using public transportation.

The Summer Bus Passport is a low-cost, month-long bus pass, specifically designed for Santa Clarita youth. The Passport not only provides the opportunity for a summer transportation experience, but also comes with numerous discounts and special offers for the Passport holders at businesses located throughout the community.

Student can  purchase their bus pass at City hall for $25 by showing their  school ID.  In addition they will get discounts at some local businesses when showing their pass.

For more information go to the city website here.

2008 Valley Fair

It’s time again for the Valley Fair (San Fernando Valley Fair) which was moved up here last year to the Saugus Speedway.  The fair starts 6/26 and goes through 6/29.

There will be some old time music at the fair in the form of Ambrosia and Juice Newton (of Angel of the Morning fame).

In addition there will be cars from the MTV show Pimp My Ride for spectators to admire and over 100 vendor booths with tons of great food I’m sure.

For more information you can go to the fair website here

Valencia Vikings Advance to the CIF Championship

As the defending national champs made the drive to Corona today to play Santiago in the semi-finals, they knew they had a chance to beat Corona two years in a row on their home field.  They did just that.  Jessica Spigner came up with a two run home run in her first at bat with a 2-0 count and then ripped another shot in her second at bat off the first pitch.  The final score was 3-2 and the Vikings will face Simi Valley in the Finals this weekend in Irvine.

Check out the last out with two runners on.

Good luck to the Lady Vikings!!!

Seats in the City

There are vacant seats in different city panels and planning commissions and they need to be filled.  If you have experience or are interested in contributing to the growth and development  of Santa Clarita consider applying for one of these spots.

  • Parks and Rec Commission
  • Planning Commission
  • Open Space Preservation District Financial Accountability and Audit Panel

If you are interested you can go to the city clerk’s office or download an application from the city website on Friday.  Applications are due on June 20th and council members will appoint commissioners and panel members on July 8th.

Vikings Win Volleyball CIF Championship

Congratulations to the Valencia High School Boys Volleyball team who won their CIF championship game tonight against Santa Barbara. This is the Vikings 4th CIF championship (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008).

Hart and Valencia Baseball Go Out in Quarter Finals

Two local teams battled til they were defeated yesterday in the CIF Southern Section Div I play-offs. (Hart by Long Beach Wilson and VHS by Simi Valley) All good things must come to an end, but all that means for these talented athletes is that summer scouting will begin early for them.  Many of these boys will be playing on their scout team as early as this weekend.  In fact, there is a tournament going on today in Huntington Beach.  So while the CIF championship is out of reach, these boys are still top contenders for great accomplishments on the field this summer.
