After Hours Pediatric Urgent Care

There was a big ad in insideSCV this month about an urgent care facility for kids that is open when most pediatricians aren’t.  They offer IV’s, stutures and casts.  They accept all PPO plans, but there is a $75 fee due at time of service.

I think this is great.  I remember sitting in the emergency room with my son 2 years ago waiting about 3 hours for him to get 4 stitches.  I would have gladly paid the $75 fee just to get him treated quicker.

  1. Thanks for the info, it’s very good to know.

  2. Yeah; I had a similar problem with my son; he had split his lip — we took him to the urgent care on Soledad (just past Bouquet) and the doc there advised us to go to Henry Mayo’s e-room to get a better stitch-up — 6 hours and $2500 later, we basically got the same service we would have gotten had we just had the doc at the urgent care stitch him up.
Good to know there’s a place that specializes in children’s care after hours — I would never go back to Henry Mayo unless I was a critical case.

  3. I have a 2 year old daughter and I actually took her to Advanced Medical Care on Smyth Drive across from Valencia High School….they treat anyone over the age of 12 months and they are open 7 days a week…the best part was THEY BILL AS A FAMILY PRACTICE even though they are also a urgent care site…NO $75.00 Urgent Care Fee at Advanced Medical Care! I know they take PPO insurance…and they are fully equipped! They had a warm and friendly staff and were very helpful…

  4. They are a great bunch of Doctor’s. I go to the one in the valley! I am so thrilled they are here!!

  5. Also good to know is where a 24-hour pharmacy is located. CVS at 19424 Soledad Cyn in Canyon Country is the only one that I know of in the Santa Clarita area.

  6. This place is great. The offices are beautifully painted with colorful characters and the staff was amazing. The doctor even called the next day to follow up on my daughter’s condition. I feel a little more at ease being a new mom knowing this place is in my neighborhood.

  7. Hey, Matt (it’s DesiRee, Lori’s friend)!
I wouldn’t recommend taking anyone to HM…not even for critical care. HM’s docs can’t diagnose a broken foot (seriously). They tried to tell me my 11 year old daughter had gout. =\
You’re better off going over the hill to Holy Cross or out to Huntington Memorial.

  8. I am glad to know that parents are pleased to see a pediatric urgent care in our neighborhood. I had an emergency with my son a few months ago & was advised to go to Holy Cross ER–After 9 hours in the ER waiting room, my newborn was taken by ambulance to Valley Press for treatment because they DO NOT offer pediatric care or have a pediatrician to call at Holy Cross!!

  9. I read the comments regarding henry mayo above and in response to those, I recently took my newborn to the HM ER and was blown away by the professionality and quality of care that the doctors and nursing staff provided to my baby. It was an excellent experience in light of the issue we were there for.

  10. Back in Oct 07 I was bitten by a black widow spider on my thigh. Although we didn’t initially find the spider (we did find it a couple of days later in the bathtub), all my symptoms were that of a black widow per my private physician. He told me to go the closest ER (Henry Mayo). The doctor that attended me INSISTED that she thought I had shingles even though I told her that I felt the venom when it bit, but we couldn’t find the spider. She refused to talk to my private physician, even when I called him and handed her the phone she cut him off brusquely.

I could barely stand, let alone walk unassisted; yet, when they released me, the on-duty nurse who had not been my attending nurse expected me to walk myself out of the ER. I asked her for a wheelchair & she said “maybe” she could find one & when she did she said “You’re lucky one of the volunteers just came down to release a patient, so you have your wheelchair now.” I just wanted to get out of their at that point!

I had never felt so poorly treated by the medical profession in my life. I’m a grown woman, well-educated and have worked in a medical office for the past 20 years; and yet because I was in so much pain that at that moment I was pretty helpless physically (but I was fully aware of what was happening otherwise). Because of a language barrier, they were not attentive to my husband’s concerns either. I called a few days later to file a complaint, but of course they never returned my messages.

I had hoped never to return, but my daughter collapsed last week, she had chest pain & trouble breathing, we had to call 911 and that’s where the ambulance took us. She was diagnosed with costochondritis by the ER dr who seemed nice enough; just an ekg, x-ray & blood work. However, when I brought her in to be checked by our dr, he found that she has pulmonary obstruction indicative of asthma and she’ll be undergoing further studies. So, even though she had trouble breathing and they had not done any pulmonary studies which would have shown the pulmonary obstruction.

Now I really do not want to EVER return to Henry Mayo under any circumstance and I hope I never have to!!

  11. It is strange to comprehend about paying for treatment being from the UK. Yes we complain, that it is not up to standard, yes we complain about the wait, but we don’t know how lucky we are.
As far as private treatment in the UK is concerned, we would have been treated much quicker if we paid, if not straight away.

  12. Doctors have to learn to listen to thier patients!!!
